Fraction Models - Why They Matter | 3-5

The models we use are essential in helping students make sense of what fractions are and how to operate with them. Fraction algorithms without understanding lead to greater problems later with ratios, proportions and algebra. We’ll explore area and linear models and how these models can be used to develop understanding of fraction work.

Bringing Literature and Music into your Math Classroom | K-2

Incorporating literature and music into your math classroom helps students see that math surrounds them in everyday life.  Big Ideas own Newton and Descartes team up in Math Musicals - educational stories, songs, and animations - that enhance student learning.

Everyday Instruction through the Lens of Math Practices | K-5

Participants will engage with each of the eight Standards of Mathematical Practices via fun problem-solving activities that will help them gain a deeper understanding of each SMP. Strategies will be modeled to help teachers learn how to meaningfully embed SMPs in everyday instruction.
